It is what it is, so let’s make the best of it!  We are still holding our next auction THIS THURSDAY the 30th June.  It combines good probate instructions locally and from a titled lady in Harley Street.

18th, 19th and 20th century PICTURES, PRINTS, PORTRAITS, & MAPS, including a good portrait of a gentleman with a cello, English School, circa 1770, colonial watercolours and of the Scilly Isles, and of local interest including of Richmond and Isleworth, by British, American, European, Russian, and other artists including  J. Ghose, L.M. Ghose, T. Millons, H. Hughes Richardson, Thomas Nicholson Tyndale, Schlemm, Sheila Flinn, Desmond Wilson, John MacWhirter, Suzy Green, Rowland Langmaid, L.S. Lowry, a signed print, R.C. Snell, John Wynne Morgan, Gavril N. Gorelov, John Norden, John L. Roget, Glynn Boyd Harte, Derrick Greeves, Anthony Hodge, Peter MacKarell, Graham Clarke, John Fitzgerald Marshall, Ivan Baron, V. There are some great MIRRORS, modern and period with two very large 19th century mirrors, one oval in a moulded gilt frame the other rectangular and with an architectural cornice and mouldings.

JEWELLERY has about 70 lots and includes lots of gold.  One sweet item is a French 19th century 18ct gold mesh purse by G Keller and a fine 18ct gold French bracelet set with gem stones. There are lots of gold bracelets, gold coins, an Edwardian 15ct gold sapphire and half pearl pendant, a 15ct gold brooch and earrings in original box, a Cartier silver bangle, watches, diamond rings, a damascened cigarette case by Komai and a Russian 19th century silver and niello work cigar box, a Georgian tortoiseshell etui and manicure set, fitted travelling cases, portrait miniatures and lots of costume jewellery, a 19th century Russian silver and niello tobacco box, decorated as a chequer-pattern travelling bag with engraved straps, 11.5 cms long, IF maker’s mark, Moscow 1865, 147 g,  and much more. COLLECTABLES including the best postcard album we’ve seen in years, full of Captain Bruce Bairnsfather cards, military, ships, humour, silks, Louis Wain and more.  Otherwise we have the usual medals, pens, football programmes, toys, stamps etc.

SILVER AND PLATE, about 75 lots includes an Arts and Crafts caddy spoon by Henry George Murphy, candlesticks, cigarette boxes, flatware, a large vase, tea sets and extensive plate. ALL PHOTOGRAPHED

THE SHELVES are full as usual including a good selection of English, foreign and oriental ceramics, some very good glass including an extensive table set with large rummers.  We have modern Lalique, large Japanese bronze vases and a huge Satsuma charger .  Dinner sets, Doulton figures, a collection of Limoges boxes, bronzes, overlaid table lamps and a pretty epergne.  GOOD CLOCKS including a George IV brass inlaid rosewood cased clock by J  Purnell of Euston Square, a William IV mahogany clock by George Brown of 104 Praed street, Paddington and a late Qing Dynasty clock in the European taste along with a grande sonnerie French carriage clock by Henri Jacot. A Concert Roller Organ and rolls shares the shelves with good boxes including a tea caddy in stained tortoiseshell. We have an old bayonet, a continental rim fire rifle, sword stick, African fly whisks, a rare Continental laid-thread religious panel, a student’s cello, interesting lighting, old hi-fi. COSTUME includes several large lots of vintage and designer ladies’ clothing, a Mulberry Jungle Green Mini Alexa handbag, Gucci bags, vintage bags, furs, etc.

BOOKS, in about 10 lots includes a good lot on the circus, about 65 volumes, including  ‘Circus Life’ by Thomas Frost, 1875.

CARPETS  includes a lovely old Persian rug that’s 7ft long and a large oriental room carpet along with Chinese carpets.

FURNITURE is 120 lots and includes a rare 1950s dining table in teak  by Hans Wegner for Carl Hansen & Son and five matching rush-seated chairs, all purchased from Liberty & Co and a similar hi-fi trolley.  At the other end we have a good George lll demi-lune table with inlaid frieze, a period bachelor’s chest with slide, a good set of 19th century stinkwood dining chairs, a period oak bureau, two good large settees, a leather chair with electrical features that include a chill cabinet!  The general goods includes a large garden statue, a JCB 5.5 hp mower, white goods, tools, televisions and much more.

All happening NEXT THURSDAY 30th June at 11am with viewing on Wednesday from 1-7pm and on sale day from 9.30am.
