Entering the saleroom you will be greeted by a full-size handsome pair of well-patinated ‘stone’ labradors.
Two weeks ago we visited a large house in Barnet and took delivery of 130 items of Chinese porcelain bought in the early 1960s. This is not a large sale. No 1000 lots this time and at present very little furniture due to our passing more on to St Luke’s Hospice directly from the homes we visit.
Having said that, if you check out the blog on our website, you will see the most fabulous 19th century inlaid dining table, a Boulle cabinet and some very interesting carved chairs, a carved Savonarola chair, a Victorian wardrobe and a William IV secretaire chest both of good colour, a William IV mahogany writing table, 60s rosewood wall cupboards and a 60s bedroom suite by Loughborough Furniture, an Ercol light wood table and four stickback chairs, a four poster bedframe, and a fabulous Epstein figured bleached walnut dining suite with eight chairs.
PICTURES include works by Lionel Edwards, Barbara Cohen, Arthur J T Slack, A H A Selgrave, John Voss, Alan Chapman, Salvatore, Barbara Katz-Bierman, John Dobbs, Erik Vellucci. There is also a large collection of vacant frames.
JEWELLERY includes a bejewelled gold Omega lady’s wristwatch, a sapphire crescent brooch, diamond rings and a quantity of gold including sovereigns. SILVER & PLATE includes two inkstands, one combining a taper stick.
COLLECTABLES include a collection of old truncheons, Japanese swords, a Mauser rifle, coins, postcards, cigarette cards, old photographs, an extensive entry of records, books, games and toys incl. a Bowman model steam engine with trucks and some original boxes, an old Hornby railway set with boxes still to arrive, a large number of real railway items incl. pressure gauges, maker’s plaques for Chas Roberts Wakefield, Standard Railway Wagon Co, Hurst Nelson and Motherwell, an LNER boiler cover, number plaques, a speedo; an old red telephone and two stick phones.
SHELF ITEMS include two fabulous carved and painted Romanian cart sides, a fabulous collection of old copper including graduated pans, clocks, a large coromandel writing box, a large collection of Wade Whimsies, dolls, luggage, cushions, Cornish ware by T&G Green. DRINK includes old whiskies, port, brandies and wines. Two 19th century barometers, one by Ciceri & Pini Edinburgh. An interesting collection of RUGS. COSTUME includes furs. GENERAL EFFECTS include hifi, a very clean bandsaw and pillar drill, a garden bench and unused patio set, white goods, etc.
