LOT 01 – £1000-1500

Chinese Ceramics in the Topkapi Saray Museum Istanbul:

LOT 02 – £1000-1500

A Qing dynasty Kangxi period blue and white ‘yenyen’ vase, with unusually flared neck, the neck and body each brightly painted with a supplicant before an empress and her courtiers in a pavilion within a continuous garden, cash mark within a double circle to the base, 40.5cm high.

Condition:  chips to rim and footrim, fire crack across mark picked out in copper red.

清康熙年间青花yenyen 花瓶。高40.5厘米。
状况:口沿及足圈缺口,烧裂纹被涂成铜红色并横穿标志。


LOT 03 – £400-600

A Song dynasty circular brush washer of Junyao type, covered in a milky greyish green glaze draining from the mottled brown rim, the underside with glazed footrim enclosing three spur marks, possibly in imitation of ru ware, 11.5cm diameter.

Condition:  glaze cracks and slight pitting, slight scratching around spur marks,
restored chip to rim and to footrim.

LOT 04 – £150-250

A Song/Yuan dynasty Junyao two-handled jar, stoutly potted, covered in a thick lavender glaze with a total of four flambé splashes, to the handles and between, pooling towards the pale brown unglazed base and foot, 11cm high approximately.

Condition:  two areas of grinding to the side to remove kiln accretions.

LOT 05 – £150-250

A Song dynasty Juluxian lobed jar, covered in a crackled glaze over a white slip stopping well short of the foot to reveal the pale grey body, 10cm high.

Condition:  staining, three restored chips to rim.

LOT 06 – £400-600

A pair of small Song dynasty Dingyao dishes,  each with hexalobed unglazed rim,

one 9.7cm diameter, the other 9.6 – 9.9cm across.

Condition:  slight spotting, frits to one.

A Song dynasty Yingqing shallow bowl of hexalobed form, 

10.7cm diameter approximately.

Condition:  slight spotting and wear, rim frits, small chip and short crack.

LOT 08 – £400-600

A flower-shaped bowl of Yingqing type,  perhaps Song dynasty, with lobed rim, finely moulded inside and out as an open bloom, the well with a flower, the whole

covered in a widely crackled clear glaze of faint blue tone, the foot unglazed showing the pale cream body, 12.4cm diameter.

Condition:  slight internal flaw, slight discolouration, chips to footrim.

LOT 09 – £400-600

A late Northern Song dynasty Yaozhou celadon small bowl, of conical form, the interior moulded with scrolling flowering peony under a finely bubbled lustrous glaze, 11cm high approximately.

Condition:  brown spot to interior and exterior, slight glaze cracks.

LOT 10 – £100-200

A Song dynasty Longquan celadon vase of ‘kinuta’ form, covered in an even grey-green glaze with grit adhering round the foot, 15.5cm high.

Condition:  imperfectly fired, with unglazed spot to neck and unglazed areas beneath
the rim, black spot to one side, glaze cracks, large gold lacquer repair to mouth,
chips to footrim.

状况:烧制欠缺,颈部一点及口沿下无釉。边有黑点,釉裂纹,

大量金漆修补口沿,圈足缺口。


LOT 11 – £500-800

A Song/Yuan dynasty Longquan celadon twin-fish shallow bowl, the centre with two scaly fish in relief, the rounded sides with everted rim, the underside carved with stiff leaves, all under a sea green glaze, 21.4cm diameter.

Condition:  unglazed spots, worn, chip to inside of footrim.

LOT 12 – £1000-1500

A late Shang/early Western Zhou dynasty bronze ceremonial wine beaker zhi,
of oval baluster form cast to either side with a taotie mask, the interior with inscription, the whole with encrustation varying in colour from dark brown to malachite green, 12.2cm high.

Condition:  old chips to rim and footrim, slight crack, two small casting holes to side.

商晚期/西周早期青铜礼仪觯(注:读音zhi , 古代饮酒器皿)。

高 12.2厘米。

状况:口沿和圈足历史遗留缺口,细裂缝,侧两小铸造孔。


LOT 13 – £100-200

A Han dynasty pottery jar of approximate baluster form, covered in a mottled green glaze, now with large areas of iridescence, 36cm high, with later copper liner.

Condition:  abrasions, extensive crack.

汉陶罐。高36cm。

状况:擦伤,多裂纹。


LOT 14 – £200-300

A Tang dynasty white porcelain jar,  of compressed rounded form, covered in a clear glaze over a white slip stopping well short of the flat base, 16cm high.

Condition:  wear and pitting, some grinding to shoulder and lip, crack to body.

LOT 15 – £300-400

A Song dynasty or Western Xia small Cizhou cut-glaze jar, with a bold band of
stylised foliage in chocolate brown against the pale buff unglazed ground, the interior and base similarly chocolate glazed,9.3cm high.

Condition:  short firing cracks to rim.

LOT 16 – £60-80

A Qing dynasty Fujian blanc-de-chine miniature vase, 17th/18th century, applied with two sprigs of bamboo in relief, 6.9cm high.

Condition:  slight grey spotting.

清闽白瓷微型花瓶。高 6.9厘米。

状况:少量灰斑。

A Ming dynasty blue and white saucerdish, 16th century, loosely painted with a peacock  standing between flowering peony, within a border of chrysanthemum scrolls, the underside with peony scrolls in similar style, 31.8cm diameter.

Condition:  minor unglazed spots and blemishes, chips to inside of footrim,
faint tiny crack at rim, crack across base.

明16世纪青花浅盘。直径31.8cm。

状况:少许无釉点及瑕疵,圈足底内侧缺口,口沿细微

裂纹,裂纹横跨底部。


LOT 19 – £1000-1500

A Ming dynasty Jiajing mark and period small blue and white bowl, the flat centre painted within pencilled outlines with a crane in flight above lotus and bamboo within a double circle repeated below the rim, the exterior with a continuous scene of birds swimming and in flight and groups of lotus, the concave base with six-character mark, the slight footrim edged in burnt orange,
10.4cm diameter approximately.

Condition:  slightly misshapen, chip at rim repaired in gold lacquer.

明万历年间标志青花浅盘。直径约17.8cm。

状况:略畸形,微小凹痕,靠近图中坐立之人釉瑕疵,

LOT 20 – £3000-4000

A Ming dynasty Wanli mark and period blue and white saucerdish, crisply painted in tones of blue within pencilled outlines with a seated sage and attendant under a pine tree by a lake, within a border of dragons and phoenix, the underside with six sprays of fruit or flowers, the base with six-character mark within a double ring, 17.8cm approximately.

Condition:  slightly misshapen, slight pitting, glaze blemish by sage, frits and slight chips to rim.

明嘉靖年代标志小青花碗。直径约10.4cm。

状况:略畸形,金漆修复口沿缺口。


LOT 21 – £1500-2500

A Ming dynasty Wanli mark and period blue and white mantou xin bowl, painted in a bright blue within pencilled outlines with a single phoenix to the interior and with two phoenix to the exterior, six-character mark within a double ring to the base, 13cm diameter approximately.

Condition:  interior with worn blemishes, slight abrasions and pitting, rim ground
and with vestigial fritting and chips.

明万历年间标志青花馒头心碗。直径约13cm。

状况:内磨损瑕疵,轻微擦伤及凹痕,口沿碾磨并仍呈磨伤及缺口痕迹。


LOT 22 – £5000-8000

A rare Ming dynasty Wanli mark and period polychrome tiny shallow bowl, incised and enamelled on the biscuit with a vase of flowers within a border of Buddhist emblems in yellow and aubergine against the bright green ground, the reverse reserved with sprays of lingzhi fungus, and with six-character mark within a double circle to the base, all in yellow against a similar green ground, 6.6cm diameter, contained within a ‘guri’ cinnabar lacquer circular box carved with a hammerhead design to the base and cover, and with removable yellow silk lining.

LOT 23 – £1500-2500

A Ming dynasty Wanli mark and period imperial yellow bowl, of rounded form with everted rim, the white base with six-character mark within a double circle in underglaze blue, 13.7 – 14cm across.

Condition:  slightly misshapen, colour slightly streaky and uneven, faint pale brown stain across mark, two chips and short crack to rim.

Note:  With copy receipt from Bluett & Sons dated 12 February 1947 presumed to
specify this bowl, at a price of £25.

明万历年间标志御用黄色碗。口径13.7cm 到14cm.

状况:略畸形,颜色略显条纹及不均匀,浅淡棕色斑痕穿过标志,

口沿两处缺口及短裂纹。


LOT 24 – £8000-12,000

A Qing dynasty Yongzheng mark and period imperial yellow saucerdish, the footrim a pale orange in imitation of Ming wares, the white base with six-character mark within a double circle in underglaze blue, 13.1 diameter.

Condition:  faint crackle to yellow enamel, slight pitting and spotting, slight frits to footrim.

LOT 25 – £6000-8000

A Ming dynasty Zhengde mark and period yellow-ground saucerdish, painted in tones of underglaze blue with a spray of gardenia within a double ring, the border with lotus, vine, peach and pomegranate, the exterior with a continuous flowering leafy stem, all reserved against a rich yellow enamel ground, the white base with
six-character mark within a double circle in underglaze blue,
19.9cm diameter.

Condition:  areas of wear, glaze blemishes to base, crack to rim.

LOT 26 – £3000-5000

A Ming dynasty Hongzhi mark and period green dragon dish, with slightly everted rim, the interior with a writhing five-clawed dragon among cloud in green enamel over incised unglazed detail and with green line borders, the exterior with two further dragons among cloud in similar technique but additionally incised with an underglaze wave pattern, the base with six-character mark within a double circle,
20.8cm diameter approximately.

Condition:  some pale brown staining, clear enamel spot to base, short crack to rim.

LOT 27 – £4000-6000

A Ming dynasty Jiajing mark and period blue and white dragon dish, with slightly everted rim, densely painted with a five-clawed dragon writhing amongst scrolling flowers within a border of two further dragons among flowers, the exterior similarly decorated with two dragons and flowers and with key-fret band to the foot, six-character mark within a double circle to the base, 19.5cm diameter.

Condition:  two unglazed spots burnt orange to interior border and two similar but tiny spots to exterior, faint abrasions, surface cross scratching over mark.

明嘉靖年间标志青花龙盘。 直径19.5厘米。

状况:内侧边两无釉点烧成橙色,外侧边亦有 极小两相似点,

浅擦伤,表面交叉痕刮过标志。


LOT 28 – £1000-1500

A Ming dynasty Jiajing mark and period blue-enamelled dish, with slightly everted rim, covered inside and out in a faintly mottled blue with orange peel surface, the white base with six-character mark within a double circle in underglaze blue, 20.6cm diameter.

Condition:  interior partially bloomed and with some abrasion, restored chip to
underside of rim.

LOT 29 – £20,000-30,000

A rare Ming dynasty Xuande mark and period blue and white dice bowl, heavily potted, the exterior finely painted with two five-clawed dragons among cloud below a border of foaming waves, a lappet band below, the undecorated interior with central six-character mark within a double circle and with a double line border at the rim, the slightly recessed base unglazed, 26 – 27cm across.

Condition:  slightly misshapen, slight pitting, interior and rim abraded, small glaze chips and larger ground-out chips to inner rim, slight glaze chips and large
ground-out chip to outer rim, slight fire crack to rim.

Note:  Other examples were sold at Christie’s London, 18 June 2002, lot 187, and at
Sotheby’s Hong Kong, 10 April 2006, lot 1659; and a further example was offered at
Christie’s New York, 22 March 2007, lot 299.

罕见明宣德年间标志青花骰子碗。口径 26到27厘米。

状况:略畸形,细小凹痕,内侧及口沿磨损,内口沿细小釉伤及大缺口

碾磨,外口沿轻微釉伤及大缺口碾磨,口沿细微火烧裂纹。


LOT 30 – £15,000-20,000

A Ming dynasty Yongle period blue and white ‘lotus bouquet’ saucerdish, finely painted with a ribbon-tied spray of lotus and other plants surrounded by a floral scroll below a wave border, the exterior with a band of scrolling lotus and other flowers between classic scroll and key-fret bands, all in a typical blue varying from pale to inky black, the unglazed base burnt a mottled orange, 31.1cm diameter approximately.

Condition:  slight abrasion to interior, wear to rim, crack to rim.

LOT 31 – £40,000-60,000

A very rare Ming dynasty Hongwu period underglaze copper red bowl, painted with a central peony within a broad band of scrolling chrysanthemum below a
key-fret border, the exterior with scrolling peony between key-fret bands to the rim and foot, all in a colour varying from grey to pale pink, the footrim and also unglazed parts of the rim burnt orange, 20cm diameter approximately, 9.5cm high approximately.
