Selling

Bainbridges have 9 sales a year and each sale has a fixed period for entering lots
(the period is always from the Tuesday following a sale for a fortnight).

We open Monday–Friday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. You can park by the front door and a porter will help you with whatever you are bringing for sale.

Speaking on the ‘phone to one of the staff can be a good way to decide if what you want to sell is acceptable (01895 621991: please leave your name and number on the answerphone if nobody is immediately available) OR you can email a selection of photographs (enquiries@bainbridgesauctions.com)

Photographs need to be simple and in focus, preferably low resolution and only one per item, please.

Where you are involved in a full house clearance for a deceased estate then Bainbridges will visit you at the house if, following your initial ‘phone call, that seems the right course to pursue. That visit is free of charge. We will explain how we can clear the house in the most economic way, using charities where possible to take away items that are not sufficiently commercial before we visit the tip. It’s during this discussion that we can offer you additional services such as shipping goods abroad or moving items to family members. We have been providing this service for 40 years.

Auctions

For nearly 40 years now Bainbridges have held regular sales of antiques, collectables and general effects.

Our auction room is purpose-built with its own car parking and a café on sale day. It is next door to the Central line at West Ruislip station, which is also a stop on the Chiltern line from Buckinghamshire into Paddington. We are 8 minutes off the A40/M40.

We are general auctioneers and hold one sort of auction that covers all levels of goods. The sales are sectionalised, usually beginning with pictures followed by jewellery, silver and plate, art objects and small collectables, porcelain, ceramics, pottery and glass, wines and spirits, metal wares and general goods and conclude with vehicles, oriental and other carpets and furniture.

Sales can last for up to 9 hours. They are always held on a Thursday beginning at 11 a.m. and are held approximately 5 weeks apart. Viewing is the day before the sale from 1 p.m. until 7 p.m. and on sale day from 9.30 a.m.

The contents of our sales are 99% privately entered, usually from deceased estates and mainly unreserved.

Bainbridges occasionally hold specialist sales, which have included Chinese porcelain,  boats, motor bikes and, for BT, hundreds of red telephone boxes.

The sale catalogues are available to view on our website

Costs of selling

Our commission is 20% of the hammer price, subject to minimum, but not additional, fees of £8, £11 and £20 per lot, depending on the size of the lot. For example, a ‘shelf’ or wall item has a minimum of £8 per lot, a piece of furniture £11, and a suite, piano, large cumulative lots and vehicles £20 (yes, we sell cars and motorbikes)

Our commission includes all marketing costs.

Insurance is optional and is charged at 1.5% with a minimum of £1 per lot.

Bainbridges have no lotting charges (some auctioneers charge a fee per lot on top of the sales commission).

DUMPING FEES are passed on at cost.
