For nearly 40 years Bainbridges have held regular sales of antiques, collectables and general effects.
Sales are held at our purpose-built auction room situated by West Ruislip station which is on the Central line and on the Chiltern line, which travels through to Marylebone mainline station from Buckinghamshire.
We are general auctioneers and hold one sort of auction that covers all levels of goods. The sales are sectionalised, usually beginning with pictures followed by jewellery, silver and plate, art objects and small collectables, toys, porcelain, ceramics, pottery and glass, vintage and other clothes, furs and accessories, wines and spirits, metal wares and conclude with cars and motorbikes, oriental and other carpets and furniture and white goods. The contents of our sales are 99% privately entered, usually from deceased estates and are mainly unreserved.
Sales can last for up to 9 hours. They are always held on a Thursday beginning at 11 a.m. and are held approximately 5 weeks apart. Viewing is the day before the sale from 1 p.m. until 7 p.m. and on sale day from 9.30 a.m. to 11 a.m.
You are recommended to spend time in the saleroom viewing. It saves making mistakes and items never look the same in the flesh as in photographs. A word of advice – always check the hall board of ‘Special Notices’. It tells you about lot changes, additions and withdrawals. Bainbridges will always tell you honestly about lots but condition reports are best carried out in person. We are not experts in restoration.
There are 9 sales a year.
The sale catalogue with some images is available to view on our website from the weekend before the sale, and images of some of the lots can be viewed on our Blog prior to the sale.
If you are unable to attend an auction you may commission Bainbridges to bid on your behalf by filling in a Commission Bids form. Bids on your behalf will be made as if you are in the room but preference is given to those in the room.
Online bidding is available through UK Auctioneers at www.ukauctioneers.com and is subject to their and Bainbridges ‘Conditions of Sale‘.
Bainbridges buyer’s commission is 27% with a minimum charge per lot of £5.00 + VAT, and we ask successful bidders to pay and clear by 5 p.m. on the Monday after the sale. We are not able to pack or post lots, but can put you in touch with a courier or with our transport services for large purchases. Whilst we make no recommendations, Mailbox have representation in Uxbridge. Their telephone number is 01895 252082.
Bainbridges occasionally hold specialist sales, which have included Chinese porcelain, boats, motor bikes and, for BT, hundreds of red telephone boxes.
