The March sale also includes a large archive of mainly unframed works by Alfred Kingsley Lawrence (1893-1975), from the artist’s family, chiefly portraits and portrait sketches in pastels and pencil, including of Paul Robeson, of Princess Alexandra as a child, etc., and also of airmen including of Sgt Peter F.C. McWilliams, dated 14.2.42, military portraits and cartoons, including ‘Soldier in Tin Hat – Thoughtful’,  and a group of ink sketches of players in Newcastle United Football Club with the Magpie (c.1920s).
