Our next auction, in a few days time on the 4th August, is full of wines. It’s one of the 3 sales we hold each year that has a licence for the sale of alcohol, the next being the December 8th sale .
I think we’ve done you proud. It’s not so much the bottle of Krug ’76 which will be a snip at £200 or so, but the wines from a retired collector who did look after them and enjoyed 1982 red Bordeaux, one of the best of all vintages. 50 lots, mainly of 12 or so bottles each, to include as a sample of lots a single bottle of Penfolds Grange Bin 95 red wine, vintage 1980, bottled 1982, imported by Whiclar Wines Ltd., 3 bottles of selected claret, comprising Cordier Chateau Talbot 1985, Chateau Batailley 1984, and Chateau Rausan-Segla 1983, 10 bottles of Chateau Bel Orme 1978 Haut-Medoc red wine, 8 bottles of 1983 Chassagne-Montrachet white Burgundy, comprising: Bernard Morey Les Embrazees (6), Bernard Morey Les Baudines (1), and Jean-Marc Morey Les Chaumees (1), 7 bottles of premier cru Burgundy red wine, comprising: Barolet & Fils Chambolle-Musigny 1983 (2), Hospices de Nuits Nuits-Saint-Georges Les Didiers Cuvee Fagon 1983 (2), Bouchard Volnay-Fremiets Clos de la Rougeotte 1983 (2), and Gevrey Chambertin Lavaux St Jacques 1985. They are here to be sold and are all listed with photographs in our on-line catalogue. Spirits and ports are also represented. Look either side of lot 500.
Otherwise the sale will not disappoint. Houses cleared include a fabulous palace in the pick of Stanmore’s 5-star addresses. Furnished in expensive modern style we have fabulous settees and accessories. One table has a complicated mechanism of steel ropes and ratchets to adjust the height from coffee to dinner. Google Indian-Ocean and you will see what other people buy for their pool room. We have 8 Burnham chairs that retail at £395 each, two Salisbury teak sun loungers on wheels – retail £895 each, a patio table for 8 to 12 and two woven cube chairs with stools. The house also provided us with about 6 or 7 televisions, big to small including Lowe. He kindly threw in two wind deflectors from his Bentley convertable. ‘Great but too much fuss’. So all that fills our sale room.
In order to have space for the wines we have kept the SILVER AND PLATE down to a couple of shelves, enough to justify a visit, and similarly the COLLECTOR shelves but there is still the usual representation of postcards, coins, medals, cigarette cards and the like.
JEWELLERY is a 60 lot section and includes a very desireable Art Deco ring that does need your attention. It’s so pretty. Gold is a-plenty.
Rare as hen’s teeth is a useful expression. It certainly applies to Beilby glass and we have a wonderful piece for sale on Thursday. It’s catalogued as follows:
A rare Beilby enamelled airtwist deceptive firing or dram glass, circa 1765, the bowl decorated in white with feathery scrolls and inscribed ‘Temperance’, faint remains of gilding to the rim, 10.4 cms high [viewing by request] Note: A similar example, albeit slightly less elegantly decorated, sold at Bonhams London as part of the Hubbard Collection: lot 153, on Nov 30th 2011; the catalogue entry refers to two further examples, at the Glyn Vivian Art Gallery & Museum and at Freemasons Hall in London. Bonhams sold theirs for £7000 plus premium. We have estimated ours at £6000. What an investment.
The SHELVES are full as usual with dinner services, figures, collectable pieces et al. I invite you to view our catalogue on-line with a picture for each lot. If you have an enquiry about a lot please email lotinfo@bainbridgesauctions.com.
Another of our vendors was a prize winning target shooter. We have airguns and pistols a plenty. They are top quality and were expensive. Each has a carry case and has been well looked after. Sadly one of our vendors died young. Receiving his drum set was not a surprise but I didnt realise he was an avid collector of cigars and we have over 200 all purchased over the last few years and in tip-top order. What sets these apart is that he stored them in brand new quality humIdors. We are selling the contents of each humidor followed by the box itself. Check out lots 539, 541, 551, 552, and 601. Another vendor, sadly departed, enjoyed photography and recently purchased a Nikon digital camera, model D90 with an AF-5 Nikkor 18-105mm lens, bag and accessories. His other hobby was music so we are offering a nearly new saxophone and case, his extensive CD collection and his modern hifi including a modern Ruark unit and a DAB Acoustic Wave music system ll by Bose – a very expensive item. We also have his Apple computer to sell . On the subject of music we have a modern upright piano by Yamaha in high black gloss. It cost thousands and we are hoping for niggle hundreds. They are great pianos. We also have an electric piano with a full set of bells and whistles.
Clearing houses enables us to look round the gardens. We have brought in two large modern blue pottery planters each containing a large and very fit ball of box. There are other large plants too. Hypnos beds are very good. We have a single and a double.
We have for sale a one family owned car. With only 14000 miles in 14 years and careful owners, it needs considering. It’s a Ford Zetec 3 door hatchback in red with air conditioning and manual box. The engine is 1596cc. It’s here to sell.
Our FURNITURE section is full and tight so do move carefully. Gillows is a very big name and we have a mahogany serving table with their stamp. Other antiques include a period bureau in walnut, good what-nots, chair sets, occasional tables, a George III Windsor arm chair in yew, an old elm box, display cabinets and good bow-fronted chests.
PICTURES include works by William Wells Quatremain, Desmond Rayner, Terence Cuneo, Arthur Brandish Holte, Charles Leader, Keith English, J.B. Souter, David Cartwright, Richard Zarzi, Tom Askwith,Roland Batchelor, Lorna Cassidy, etc.
Other shelf items include a rare Oriental doll, a Japanese sword, a stick barometer by Dove Bazeley of Cheltenham, lots of good glass, rare Doulton figures, Lladro, a thimble and teapot collection, a fast remote model car, a Kirchner power washer, a Templar Tiller garden plough, guitars and an amp, a Cabrio strimmer, a violin, good white goods.
The COSTUME section has 25 lots including designer handbags, furs and vintage clothing.
We have BOOKS, TOYS, RECORDS and RUGS
