I hope you have all had great holidays and will be able to attend our next sale on the 8th August. It’s a small sale. I think the heat has slowed down property sales and completions.
The PAINTINGS include a fine oil on canvas signed by Alfred Montague of a street scene with Rouen cathedral behind, in a smart gilt frame, and we have a number of 17th century and later portraits in oils on canvas and panel. Pretty ladies, old men – take your pick! A particularly fine example is of a lady signed Curt Kempin. Artists also include David Shepherd (signed limited edition prints), Frank Mole, J Thorn, Peter Greenhill, T Moore, P.M. Law, Frances Bedford, William Dodd, Frank Harding, John Cochrane and Hely Smith.
JEWELLERY includes gold and gem stones, a wonderful ivory fan and others, old seals, old pencils, a Dunhill lighter combining a compact and mirror, a superb carved ivory card case, a set of Guinness buttons, and SILVER includes a tea service and lots of flatware along with small pieces.
The ART OBJECTS shelves are particularly light but include coins, a large number of Mabel Lucie Atwell postcards, and other post- and cigarette cards, a 1908 family photograph album, film posters, sewing objects, etc.
The GENERAL SHELVES are busy as usual and include a number of clocks, one in Boulle work, and two longcase clocks by John Howe of Bishop Lydeard and John Whitby of Ipswich, an important microscope by Deblond London in original box, old swords, two good Nazi daggers, one an officer’s with foliate pommel and Luftwaffe straps, barometers, one a stick barometer, railway lights and ‘Express Parcels’ and ‘Luggage’ signs, a carved Burmese screen and other Asian carvings, a bronze plaque of Adam and Eve and a large fabulous bronze stand of naturalistic design, once supporting a large silver bird, stolen in a burglary! There is another large naturalistic stand in wood. We have a selection of lights – hanging and table including a pair of American table lights by Stiffel, but the best is a very tall Edwardian figure of Hermes in spelter, 53″. Cut and coloured glass includes a shelf of cranberry glass. PORCELAIN includes a shelf of Midwinter, Lladro figures,early Doulton figures including Dickens figures, oriental ceramics including good Satsuma, crested china by Goss, Arcadia, Corona, Shelley and Carlton ware, Moorcroft, a Clarice Cliff shaker. Good root carvings. A 19th century violin in an inlaid mahogany case.
COLLECTABLES include football programmes, coins and postcards, Aston Martin badge and books, old clock-golf numbers and cast iron croquet hoops and an extensive collection of dragons from middle earth. We have records and books. GOOD WINES including Dom Perignon champagne, Moet and Chandon 1955, Mumm & Co champagne and 12 bottles of Lantz Millenium brut in original boxes. Whisky, brandy and wines including a Chateau d’Yquem bottle 1966. COSTUME includes fabulous embroidered Chinese robes, designer and vintage items. Table linen.

FURNITURE includes a fabulous French marquetry dressing table and other French furniture including a day-bed, a good George lll mahogany two part campaign secretaire chest, a good mahogany and rosewood Pembroke table on moulded legs, a Victorian walnut sewing table, a 19th century D-shaped card table, an 18th century pad foot dining table, a set of six Victorian balloon back chairs, a revolving book stand, three Globe Wernicke style bookcases, a fabulous Edwardian display cabinet with serpentine sides, a bergere suite, pedestal occasional tables, 18th century chests of drawers, a Victorian Davenport, Victorian table desks, a 1950s dining suite and coffee table by David Joel Ltd. and a baby grand piano.
GENERAL EFFECTS includes old garden ornaments, an original staddle stone with top, a Honda mower, an Aquasooth Travel Lite mobility scooter, air conditioning units and white goods including Bosch, Hotpoint and Cannon including an electric Format Halogen cooker by Belling.
