Including an important Beauvais tapestry, circa 1720, 10ft x 13ft,
an important late discovery of a fine pair of Russian Popov mid-19th century porcelain jugs,
a great collection of 1960s clothes, and three motor cars.
The tapestry we have is in phenomenally good condition and comes with an estimate of £8000- £12,000. We have great pictures on the blog. In a similar vein we have a good entry of oriental carpets, all from private homes.
Peggy’s in her element, donning dark glasses and repeating ‘Peace man!’ It’s all because a manufacturer of 1960s schmutter for Miss Selfridge and Carnaby Street has delivered original examples of psychedelic trouser suits, tunics, blouses, shirts, lace jabots, butcher boy hats and shoes. Also in that section we have great fur coats and old luggage.
FURNITURE includes a superb modern bedroom suite from Waring & Gillow. In light wood it includes a sleigh bed and luxury mattress. It cost thousands. From the same home are two modern oak dressers. 20th century furniture also includes a superb Heals dining table with 8 chairs. An unusual coffee table has its legs covered in leopard skin. There are 1960s revolving chairs on chrome bases and a brown leather settee. From the Victorian era we have Pembroke tables, display cabinets, one with decorative inlay, a dwarf library bookcase, a pier cabinet, dining tables, a large roll-top desk with original chair, chests of drawers, Windsor armchairs, a William IV sewing table, a heavily carved oak sideboard, and a 4-fold Japanese screen. We also have a Broadwood Pianola and a baby grand by Challen in a light walnut case, a Swiss mirror with foliate carved frame, a charming inlaid mahogany settee from a salon suite, an 18th century tripod table with one-piece top, a 19th century mahogany pedestal sideboard, 1960s G-plan teak wall units and a dining suite, bamboo cabinets and tables, a fantastic Italianate bar and stools, an Art Deco up-lighter on a Bakelite column and a restored mahogany grandfather clock, the painted dial signed George Grant Southampton, with second hand and date aperture. Further clocks include a Regency example, the movement on gilt dolphin supports. There are two fusee wall clocks, one by Camerer Cuss & Co and another, a railway clock from the Barry to Cardiff line, and a Victorian walnut wall clock. Boxes include a Regency Anglo-Indian tea caddy inlaid in brass, writing slopes and cigar boxes.PICTURES is a busy section and includes a particularly fine pair of oil paintings by J Thors. Other artists include Basil Bradley, Richard Dighton, John Ward, H. Braunston, E. Grabner, H. Schwarz, R. Mainellay, Leonard Boden, Alasdair Banks, Debra Manifold, Andy Wright, T.F. Callier, Patience E. Bishopp, Jasper Salwey and I. Ouwater. COLLECTABLES is a developing section with good football programmes and good postcards, incl. a card commemorating the destruction of Zeppelin L21 by Lieut. W. Robinson, cigarette cards and stamps. An important postal history item is a letter included in the first aerial delivery. Coins include sovereigns, and there is an interesting group of First World War medals incl. related photographs and pocket watch. We have a good lot of film stills showing the model maker’s art and from an elderly film studio chippy comes a collection of early photographs signed by Sean Connery, a Marilyn Monroe Christmas card, 27 Christmas cards from Bob Hope to Ron Udall, film transparencies for Thunderball and On Her Majesty’s Secret Service and other Pinewood productions, film souvenir programmes, Cinema Studio and Pinewood Merry-go-round magazines, etc. There are military items incl. hats and bayonets, early office items incl. a superb date stamp, a screen printer, boxed geometry equipment, an early surveyor’s rule incorporating a spirit level, in original case, a day and night telescope by Ramsden London, a 19th century coffin maker’s order book, and old tins, one styled as a group of tied books. TOYS include a Lesney Coronation coach, Schuco cars, a Marklin 2959 train set, a Tri-ang clockwork Alpine railway, an old bagatelle board and an early French set of building bricks. SILVER & PLATE includes a large quantity of John Pinches and Franklin Mint silver and a good copy of The Westminster Cathedral goblet by Art and Craft Editions Ltd, teasets, bowls, flatware, etc. JEWELLERY includes a genuine modern Cartier gentleman’s steel wristwatch and other gold watches along with rings, brooches, etc. It’s a large section. FASHION includes beadwork purses, old scarves, top and opera hats, old leather handbags and the phenomenal collection of 60s fashion clothing mentioned above, along with fabulous fur coats and good old luggage. VIOLINS include an old three-quarter size and 3 others. We also have a clarinet and two flutes by Barnes & Son. BOOKS. RECORDS. LIQUOR includes a large quantity of premium champagnes in magnums and bottles incl. Piper-Heidsieck, 1976, Rare Champagne, Moet & Chandon, Dom Perignon, and Bollinger, a double magnum of Taylor’s port 1976 in original box, and a magnum of 1985 Chateau Cos Labory Medoc. SHELF ITEMS include a Sewills barograph, an early brass lamp from a Rolls Royce, and cold painted animals incl. a cat on a carpet. POTTERY, PORCELAIN & GLASS incl. Meissen, Clarice Cliff incl. a particularly good plate, Moorcroft, a Whitefriars Drunken Bricklayer vase, large Royal Crown Derby pieces, Persian tiles and a vase along with the usual examples to include Doulton, Worcester and Mintons.
